About Laura
Laura graduated from the Kansas City Art Institute in 1982 with a major in Sculpture. Early in her career, she transitioned from creating large-scale scenic painting and props to specializing in murals and trompe l’oeil for residential and commercial clients. Over 25 years, she completed numerous unique and high-profile projects before discovering her true artistic calling—mosaics.
Her first mosaic commission, a kitchen backsplash, revealed the perfect fusion of sculpture’s tactile construction, painting’s visual depth, and the timeless permanence she had long sought in her work. Seventeen years later, Laura has studied with internationally renowned mosaic masters, taught extensively, and now travels nationally and internationally to lead her own Master Workshops.
A dedicated member of the Society of American Mosaic Artists for over 20 years, Laura has contributed to the organization’s mission of educating, inspiring, and promoting excellence in mosaic arts. Her work has been featured in books, blogs, and magazines, including Mosaic Fine Art Portraits and Mosaic Art Now. She has exhibited five times in Mosaic Arts International, earning a Jurors’ Choice Award in 2012.
