INTRO TO MOSAIC CLASS

In this 8 week class, students will discover the contemporary mosaic art form.  They will be starting with learning the basic aspects of mosaic, and they will move to practice working with different kinds of tools including the traditional mosaic tools the hammer and Hardi.  The students will explore different varieties of materials including the traditional and modern materials. This class is for beginners.

MOSAIC SUBSTRATE

In this two day workshop, students will learn to create a one of a kind substrate that is appropriate for either indoor or outdoor mosaics. Substrates will be created from carved polystyrene and will be treated to withstand the most creative mosaic and the harshest weather.  Sign up for this workshop and walk away with a substrate that is ready to be covered in mosaic tessera for a spectacularly lifelike mosaic.

ADVANCED MOSAIC PENDANTS

Express your style and creativity through Mosaic Jewelry Pendants.  Sign up for this three hour workshop where you will learn how to design and create one of a kind custom mosaic pendants. Using a variety of beautiful materials, you will be introduced to the basics of creating mosaic arts. Leave this class having learned the skills of cutting glass, selecting the appropriate adhesives and materials for mosaic jewelry, and at least two wearable art pieces which you can wear with pride!

RAVENNA TECHNIQUE

The Ravenna technique is a form of indirect method.  It was invented specifically for the reproduction of Roman and the Byzantine mosaics.  In this 10-week class, students will be transforming a picture to a mosaic using the Ravanna Technique and learning about the technicality of this unique and enjoyable method, this class for all levels.

HAMMER & HARDIE

In this 2-day workshop, students will learn how to cut materials using the hammer and hardie, one of the traditional tools that has been used for mosaic through the ages. Using various materials like Natural stone and smalti, Students will learn the proper way to create a specific size of tesserae while minimizing the amount of waste. Students will also learn to properly maintain a Hammer and Hardie acquiring the skills of sharpening and general care. This class for all levels.

THE REVERSE METHOD

The reverse method is one of the first indirect methods that mosaic artists have employed.  It has been used since the 1800s. The reverse method was invented for large scale mosaics to make it easy for installation.  When utilized the mosaic artist will create an absolutely flat surface regardless of the thickness of the tessera.

  The St. Louis Basilica, which measures approximately 84,000 square feet, is one of the biggest projects to have been created with this method.  This class is 10 week for all levels.

In this three hour course, you will be introduced to the basics of the Mosaic art form.  You will have the opportunity to create your very own custom 4" x 4" Mosaic tile using various colors of stained glass pieces.  Join us and create a beautiful piece of artwork for your home or office!
